Subclass 482Skills in Demand (SID) visa

Australia's main employer-sponsored temporary skilled visa, replacing the old TSS visa since 7 December 2024 and now split into three tiers by skill and salary level.

The SID visa replaced the TSS (482) framework in December 2024 and now runs on three streams — Specialist Skills, Core Skills, and Essential Skills (design pending). All streams share the same PR pathway via the subclass 186.

Process

How to apply

  1. 1
    1. Sponsor set-up
Employer becomes or renews their Standard Business Sponsorship.
  2. 2
    2. Nomination
Employer lodges a nomination for the specific position.
  3. 3
    3. Visa application
Applicant lodges the visa application with supporting evidence (skills assessment where required, English test, health, character).
Transitional applications
Nominations and applications lodged before the Dec 2024 reforms are still assessed under the old TSS settings.
Changing streams mid-visa
Moving between SID streams (e.g. Core → Specialist because earnings rise above the SSIT) doesn't automatically require a new visa — unless the occupation changes, salary drops below the approved level, or the current visa is close to expiry.
PR access
All SID holders — any stream — can access the 186 Temporary Residence Transition pathway after 2 years.
